“BIG GIANT…..”

When our two youngest children were growing up, they had a phrase for almost anything that was of great or large size. It was the phrase that titles this paragraph.-BIG GIANT. If the tree was exceptionally tall, it was——you guessed it, a big giant tree. The adjectival phrase might be applied to trucks, trains, planes, amusement park rides or people. It was their way of expressing the maximum in quantity for any single unit.

Recently, the Jim Alleys have been involved in raising enough money to work with ministry personnel in two VERY distant localities, Australia and New Zealand. The appeal made was only made once and very modest by contemporary standards, but our God blessed it! (In the scheme of things, that is what counts). Some very significant gifts from a variety of geographical locations came to us to cover the basic expenses of flights and other accommodations. Included in those gifts was a personal check written to us that would seem somewhat insignificant in its amount to most. However, this gift came close to being classified in the category of “the widow’s mites.” You see, the gift came from an MK (most of you having an interest in our web site can translate that abbreviation). This particular MK is also under the burden of college expenses as a full time student. Perhaps it is now clearer why we mentally (and emotionally) put this contribution in the slot labeled BIG GIANT. We will not soon forget this investment and will probably be 1 to 2% more aware of each dollar we spend in our travels and ministry.
