Spoiling the Baby and Playing with a Princess

We had a great time in Texas with our two granddaughters and our new grandson. Baby Asher is a very handsome baby and looks like his father.

Yes, I am prejudiced, but aren’t all moms? We took turns holding him between feedings and filling his “sugar box.” Although he was just over a month old when we left, he could focus on my face when I talked to him. He is so cuddly, we have spoiled him for his mom and dad, but we just couldn’t help it – he’s such a precious baby.

The girls, one of whom turned three a few days after her baby brother was born and the other who was 18 months old when the baby came, are a handful for their mom. They are so cute though.

We played “Princess” when Eden dressed in her princess outfit complete with plastic crown. She agreed I could be the queen, but Poppy had to be the bad dragon. (Bad dragons have bad teeth – not that my husband has bad teeth, but dragons have sharp, pointed teeth.

Lily, the easy-going, sweet child, has developed a little stubborn streak. Most of the time she is compliant and a joy to be around, but once in a while, she really doesn’t want to do something and will cry or just mutely refuse to do anything. She can sneak up on her older sister and snatch a coveted toy that has been taken away from her and run. We’d better watch out for her later!

Our son, Josh, was working many long hours while we were there. As a surgery resident, he has many responsibilities in that department. We did get to visit with him a few hours during our stay. Josh had Saturday and Sunday off, but Saturday was spent at a men’s retreat where his dad joined him for fun at a wilderness area most of the day. That night we stayed with the children while Josh and his wife enjoyed a relaxing night out. Sunday morning he had a sore throat and elected to stay home with Eden who was sick over the week-end while we attended church. That Sunday night, my husband had the opportunity to bring a mission message at Lighthouse Baptist Church in San Antonio.

My husband and I celebrated our 46th anniversary while in Texas. He bought me a dozen beautiful red roses for the occasion, and we went out to eat on Friday night, August 25th. Amazing that we could make it that long, but we are thankful for each year together.

After a week and a half with our grandchildren and their parents, we headed back to Virginia via Chicago. The first leg of the trip was fine, no problem. However, we saw quite a bit of O’Hare Airport since our flight was delayed. We were waiting for the aircraft to arrive from Toronto. Then we waited for a captain to fly the thing to Raleigh. We were only about two hours behind schedule when we finally ascended into the clouds for take-off. Weather was not a problem except for the rain we drove through all the way home, arriving after midnight.

This week in San Antonio was a highlight of our summer along with seeing our daughter and her husband in July. After these pleasant days, our fall mission work begins again in earnest. Please remember us to the Father for wisdom in planning our teaching sessions, resources to make our next trip possible, and for health and safety.
